Mrs. Amanda C. Elliott, a League of Women Voters Member since 1967, will celebrate her 100th birthday on May 26, 2021. She was very active in her day and worked closely with former mayors Scotty Baesler, Pam Miller and Congressman John B Breckinridge on a volunteer basis.
Mrs. Elliott was born at home in Lexington, Kentucky on May 26, 1921 to now deceased Enoch R. Cooper and LouElla M. Cooper. She was the wife of now deceased James F. Elliott for 66 years. Her children Jacqueline E. Byrd (now deceased) and Enoch E. Elliott were blessed to have her as for the most part a stay at home mom. She has one granddaughter Roanette B Wilder and three great grand children.
In the 40's and 50's she often served as a "job saver" for many women of color who didn't have sick leave or vacation time to use, but needed to take a day or two off from their jobs in many of the downtown department stores. She also served as a crossing guard, when crossing guards were part of the Police Department.
She joined the League of Women Voters of Lexington in the 1967 and has been a member since then.
The Lexington League will honor her with a Centennial League Membership!
