Advocacy

The following are issues on which the League of Women Voters of Kentucky is currently focused.

In addition to these issues, the League maintains a Bill List of proposed legislation that has been filed in the Kentucky legislature that we monitor, support or oppose. The League's legislative liaisons, legislative team and League committees review bills with state and national League positions, and make recommendations to the LWV KY Board members who determine what to support or oppose. At these links you can see who filed the bill, read a summary and the full bill language and learn where it is in the process.

Kentucky's Legislative Research Commission (LRC) hosts an informative website where you can find your legislator, check the daily schedule of meetings, sign up for BILL WATCH to get notices of all actions taken on a bill, and watch committee meetings and Senate and House proceedings. The LRC also staffs a hot line, week days at 1-800-372-7181, for citizens like us to leave messages for legislators about these and any other bills or issues.

Redistricting/Fair Maps

We believe the process of drawing electoral district boundaries, known as redistricting, has a major influence on the fairness of elections in our state and across the country.

Education

We believe in fair access to quality education for all people. The League has advocated for an improvement in civics education for public school students in order to prepare students to be informed and engaged citizens.

Voting Rights

The League of Women Voters is committed to the protection of voting rights in our state.

Gun Violence

The lives of many Kentuckians have been affected by gun violence in our towns and cities.

Voting Rights REstoration/Civil Rights Restoration

The Kentucky Constitution permanently bans people with a prior felony conviction from voting. We along with a majority of Kentuckians, across political affiliation, gender and all ages, support the automatic restoration of voting rights for persons who have completed their felony sentence.

Better Elections

We believe that Kentucky's election process should be reformed by eliminating barriers to citizens voting and making the registration and voting process more convenient for citizens while also making sure that elections are secure.

Environment

The League of Women Voters has developed positions on various environmental topics that affect our state and the livelihoods of the people who live here.

Money in Politics

Money plays a major role in modern elections. The League of Women Voters seeks to promote fairness and transparency in our electoral system.
