The LWV has a long tradition of sponsoring candidate debates, ranging from national presidential debates to state and local candidate forums. The League conducts debates to inform citizens about the candidates and issues and to encourage participation in our democratic process by voting.

The League of Women Voters of Kentucky supports the automatic restoration of voting rights for persons convicted of felony offenses upon completion of their sentence. This committee has prepared a series of reports, updating data on the number of Kentucky citizens disenfranchised with recommendations for reinstating voting rights and providing formation and support for registering. The League monitors progress and advocates for passage of a constitutional amendment that would automatically restore voting rights upon full completion of sentence.

The education committee focuses on bills and budget concerns in the state legislature, lack of funding for higher education, funding for private schools with tax credits, school resource officers, adequate funding for public schools, equity in education, and fairness in school assignment plans.

As a League, we are dedicated to protecting our planet through environmental protection. Our approach to environmental protection and pollution control is one of problem solving and prevention. The League’s environmental goals aim to prevent ecological degradation and to reduce and control pollutants. We support vigorous enforcement mechanisms for agencies and localities that do not comply with state and federal standards.

It is the position of the LWV that every U.S. resident should have access to affordable quality health care, including birth control and privacy to make reproductive choices. Other policy goals include the equitable distribution of services, efficient and economical delivery of care, advancement of medical research and technology, and a reasonable total national expenditure level for health care.

The League's Redistricting Committee has created a Fair Maps Kentucky campaign to build public awareness, alert legislators to citizens’ concerns, and show legislators the broad public desire for fair maps for Kentucky districts after the 2020 Census. Our initial report, Redistricting Kentucky: A Guidebook for Citizen Participation, set the stage for our work. Committee members meet as needed to carry out the campaign. The Nominating Committee presents to the members, the names of qualified members willing to serve as League of Women Voters of Kentucky Board members, either as officers or as directors. The committee typically presents the slate of suggested nominees at the League Convention or Council.
