All Are Welcome

Any person that subscribes to the purpose and policies of the League is welcome to join.

We retain the name LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS (LWV) in honor of the suffragists that campaigned and marched for over 70 years to win the vote for female citizens. All members of local leagues are also members of the state league (LWVKY) and the national league (LWVUS).

HOW TO JOIN

We encourage you to join your Local League, if available. If there is no Local League in your area, you may join the State League as an At-Large Member.

In addition to state-wide issues, local leagues may focus on local elections, voting access and hold candidate forums specific to their community. All members may focus on state-wide issues and elections. All members of local leagues are also members of the state league (LWVKY) and the national league (LWVUS). WHY JOIN THE LEAGUE

Interested in civic engagement, voter services and gaining knowledge about how our local, state and national governments perform their public duties? The League of Women Voters offers members many opportunities to serve their community by engaging in league sponsored activities and events. We encourage all members to participate as a way to build civic muscle and knowledge. The League of Women Voters focuses on the following priority issues through various committees.

Communications: disseminates League information via Action Alerts, Op-ed’s, Letters to editors, policy statements, social media, print and visual media

Environment: addresses environmental issues at the state and local level, reviews and comments on environmental legislation

Education:  addresses educational issues at state and local level. Reviews and comments on education legislation. Includes civic education in our schools

Voter Services: includes voter registration education & events, VOTE411(the League’s one-stop site for all things related to voting, candidate information), Voter Restoration, Redistricting/Fair Maps

Healthcare: addresses healthcare issues at state and local level, reviews and comments on healthcare legislation

Legislative Oversight: very active during sessions of the General Assembly, monitors bills using Billtrack 50, assists with Action Alerts concerning specific bills

Outreach/Civic Engagement: OutreachCircle is an app used to inform and update members and non-members of league activities. It is also used to  provide important updated legislative and voting information. Public events and forums sponsored by the LWV build civic engagement and is an opportunity for the League to increase membership.

The State League provides all Kentucky members a subscription to its newsletter The Kentucky Voter. Members also are entitled to all benefits offered by the local and national League.

As a League member you have the opportunity to:

  • Support League with your time and talents at a level in keeping with your personal circumstances

  • Respond to requests for ideas and feedback

  • Resolve to do your part to protect and improve democracy
