Membership Committee Announcement, June 2021
June 2021
MEMBERSHIP
We have new Membership co-chairs! My name is Karen Brown, and I will be servicing as Co-chair of the Membership Committee along with Pat Murrell. I am a member of the KY State Administered League in Northern KY and new to the LWV. Pat is a long-time League member of the Louisville LWV and has served as President of the Louisville League. Pat has a wealth of knowledge on the work of the League and understands the administrative requirements that fall under Membership. I could not ask for a better, more knowledgeable mentor.
GOALS FOR 2021-2022
Goal #1: Support KY At-large members and KY State Administered Leagues.
In the absence of a Local League, the Membership Committee will support and encourage these members. We hope to provide avenues of participation for At-large members and KY State Administered Leagues.
What is a KY at-large (KAL) member?
These members pay dues to the KY LWV and either by geographic location or personal choice, are not members of a local League or a KSAL. We will support these members by consistent contact via emails, phone calls or ZOOM meetings. Our goal will be to connect KAL members with other members of common interest or that may live in close proximity. If a KAL member is interested in recruiting additional members, we are happy to assist. If there is interest, we can explain the process to become a KSAL. It takes three members to create a KSAL. We will be happy to provide assistance and on-going support.
What is a KY State administered League (KSAL) member?
KSAL members pay dues to KY LWV and either by geographic location or personal choice, are not members of a local League. Three members are necessary to create a KSAL with one member serving as chairperson. Representative leaders of the KSAL will sign a memorandum of agreement which assures alignment with LWVs’ principles and non-partisan policies. The board of the KY LWV will recognize the KSAL and appoint a liaison to provide administrative support, roster management, finances etc. If there is interest, a KSAL may work toward recognition as a Local League.
Goal #2: Grow our League!
TIMELY RESPONSE: It is our intention to provide a timely response to all inquiries regarding the LWV. We will be developing a standard contact process to assure a timely response and follow-up with all interested persons. We hope to encourage membership by answering questions and providing League information i.e. Voter newsletter, League website, Facebook page. All contacts will be logged to assure proper follow-up.
NEW MEMBERS: All new members will receive a welcome email, letter or call. New KAL members will be provided information regarding nearby Local Leagues or KSAL’s. Based on interest response received via the membership application, we will connect new members to other members with common interest. It will be our goal to maintain consistent contact with new members to assist their integration into the League.
We are all incredibly happy to have COVID restrictions lifted so we can meet with friends, family and League members. The best recruitment tool we have is our members talking up the value of League membership. We can assist by providing educational materials regarding the mission and history of the League. We are committed to making personal contact with members around the state. I am looking forward to meeting everyone via ZOOM but also excited to arrange face-to-face meetings. One of my personal goals is to visit all Local Leagues and KSAL’s. We want to hear from you how to best grow our League so we can continue to serve all citizens of the Commonwealth.
