(A) LWVNKY Committee Updates
1) Redistricting "Fair Maps" (Karen Brown)
· Presentation made on 6/21 to Kenton Co. Dem. Women’s Club
· June radio interview (Karen Brown & Dee Pregliasco) on WVXU’s Cincinnati Edition
· June Editorial printed in Lexington Herald Leader
· July 14th – State League Committee Zoom with Princeton Gerrymandering Project/Jason Rhode
· Working on contacts with NKY Chamber, Rotary Club, Kiwanis, NAACP (and any others) to schedule Fair Maps presentations
2) Civic Education Committee (Chris Conover)
· Discussed tabling efforts on implementing Civic Ed. to focus on Redistricting and Voter Registration
3) Voter Registration Committee (Louann Elliott, Michele Bradley)
· Jenn Jackson provided Voter Reg. training to 3 members; will make recorded training available for other members to use
· Louann is preparing the Training and Voter Reg documentation for NKY.
· Members should contact Louann is they want to volunteer.
o Denise Clark, Jennifer Fitch, Chris Conover, and Dale Freeman are interested in training.
o Denise, Jennifer, Becky can volunteer for 9/28 at a library branch.
· National Voter Registration Day is Sept. 28th. Discussed contacting public libraries to set up registration tables.
o Becky Jones will contact Kenton Co. Library Director Dave Schroeder
o Karen Brown will contact Boone Co.’s Library Director
o Louann will contact Campbell Co.’s Library Director
· Chris Conover and Dale Freeman volunteered to conduct Voter Reg. on Emma Hollis Day in Covington, 8/22/21, 4-7pm. They will work with Louann to get training/certified. Chris will contact the Emma Hollis Day organizer to set up Voter Reg.
(B) New LWVNKY Issues/Events/Action Items
1) Environmental/Infrastructure situation in Boone (Jennifer Fitch)
· This involves the Chambers Road Development on the Ellis Farm Property.
· Jennifer presented a PowerPoint about this industrial development project that has been hastily moving forward without sufficient public hearing.
· Proposal is to rezone over 200 acres of farmland to Industrial use and build warehousing.
· Property abuts other farmland and will affect the Gunpowder Creek Watershed which supplies drinking water for many NKY aquifers.
· Jennifer encourages members to join the concerned citizens group by contacting Shannon Tomlinson (shannondevinetomlinson@outlook.com)
· Boone Fiscal Court is scheduled to meet 7/27 to vote on the zoning request.
