KY League Convention at Shaker Village

League members enjoyed a beautiful weekend at Shaker Village, (see photos at State Convention 2015) sharing ideas and learning from one another. Melissa Currence, LWVUS Young People Task Force co-chair, shared insightful information about the younger generations with ideas for engaging them in League work. A panel of experts including Gretchen Hunt, Ky. Association Sexual Assault Programs, Neil Ward, Attorney and Bell County Prosecutor and Senator Whitney Westerfield (R) Christian County; Chair, Senate Judiciary Committee provided very helpful information about House BIll 8, the new expanded protective orders for victims of dating violence. Retha Wilcoxson, Hardin County League member shared their experience with Kids Vote. Nita Smith provided updates on issues around voter registration and voting in Kentucky and around the country. Carolyn Self worked with members on creating and maintaining local leagues and attracting members. Members elected new co-chairs, Terry Naydan and Nita Smith, first vice-president, Bonnie Lynch, second vice-president, Steve Senft and secretary, Fran Wagner.
